August 13, Manzy, like they say, “If it wasn’t for bad luck we wouldn’t have any luck at all.” We wait in line again in the heat and still can’t get our favorite pit spot. Cole has heard it all week about pill draw technology. So this week it can’t get any worst then #50 he drew last time out. Well it seemed to help some he draws 24, which put him on the inside second row first heat, he is also in the trophy dash, outside front row.
He finishes second, car looks good, the track is real nice, looks like it could hold up all night. Crew chief, Dave Leggue, makes some minor adjustments to the car for the heat race. Cole gets a good start and is running with the leaders. On the 3rd lap going down the front straight we see the car stumble but it picks backs up but only till the back straight were it comes to a stop, we’re done.
He brings it in and as we start looking things over Dave pulls the mag cap off and sees that the condenser moved about a 1/16” of an inch over to ground out the mag. With that fixed we checked the lineup, we’re last row inside, it’ll be a long way to go. There are only 14 cars tonight so they cut our laps to 15.
On the second lap a rookie running up front caused an incident in turn two that put three cars on the hook and ended their night. As it usually happens, the driver causing the incident continues on. With Cole starting in the back and trying to move up, he is coming into turn 1 when the car in front of him gets a flat tire and moves up the track to avoid him but gets caught up in the wreck of the other cars and destroys the front end of the Midget. He also suffered some damage, both knees are bruised pretty bad and back and neck are sore the next day with this and last weeks incident it hasn’t been much fun down there.
Looks like we get to do it all over again this week, putting the car back together for Saturday night. I’ve got to thank Dave Leggue and Dave Ellis for helping Cole get the car back together last week. It would definitely be a struggle without them..
