As we head down to the track we notice the temperature is 110. Ok it’s going to be a long night with 4 classes running. The first surprise is the back gate has opened early, no waiting in line to get in, very nice. We’re just going to run the Midget tonight and there are only main events.

Line up will be set after drivers pick up a bottle of pop that has a number on the bottom that is set on the track. It’s just a glorified pill draw which the drivers voted against at the last race. Cole would have been on the pole tonight but again as in the Sprint cars something changes it. He starts 3rd row outside, not bad and a lot better than the last races where he has been starting. There are only 12 cars so again we only get 15 laps.

As the green drops Cole is off to a great start, he’s running well and trying to get to the bottom of the track. He gets around the 22 car but the next lap the 22 gets by him; they are running together as the leader pulls in with a non running car. The yellow comes out as another car has a flat. They are lined up ready to go. Cole running fourth and trying to get to 3rd when we notice he goes to the top and seems to not be as fast but still holding on.

The checker comes out, he finishes 5th. Not bad but something happened about half way thru. He gets out of the car and says no power steering. There was fluid on his shoes and in the car. It’s always something, but at least we finished a respectable 5th. And that’s about it for the Midget until October 15th.

We have 3 weeks off then its Speedtruck Challenge in Las Vegas. We are looking forward to this race. It will determine where we go for next year. Sprint Cars, Midgets, Trucks. With these 3 weeks off, Cole and I plan on finishing our Street Rod. It’s almost done. Cole has driven it twice but it needs to be finished for the car shows coming this fall. It’s been 4 years of work. Chopped top, stroker motor, narrowed rear-end, low fast and of course black. Wait till you see it.

Tomorrow Cole starts ASU. He’s about as nervous as he was on the pole at the Chili Bowl. I can’t believe the classes he has for Mechanical Engineering. His racing is ok and a lot of fun but this out does anything in racing and shows where he’s headed for the future.
